We have been keeping hives for about 6 years in North Idaho but Jim has been keeping bees since he was a child, a lot has changed since then. Keeping honey bees in North Idaho definitely has it’s challenges because of our cold winters and all the pests that honey bees contend with in this day and age.
We’ve kept Italian honey bees, Carniolan honey bees and other species but the Italian Honey Bee seems to do the best. In Spring of 2013 we installed honey bee nucs of North Idaho reared queens from Hugus Creek Honey Farm in Saint Maries, Idaho, with the hopes that we’ll have a better acclimated bee population.
